Carved out from a classic pawn shop dating from the 1930s known for being a hotbed of illicit activity, the Pawn Shop Lounge brings a unique flavor to the burgeoning Downtown Miami area.
With a decor inspired by (what else?) a pawn shop, the venue is liberally sprinkled with items remaining from the previous tenants, including classic hi-fi equipment, cash registers, furniture, (disarmed) handguns, and a functioning photo booth. In addition, the venue has several themed areas, including a VIP area made from an actual school bus, another VIP carved from the fuselage of a 727 airliner, and the infamous Airstream trailer, which offers the ultimate in privacy for the discerning patron.
The centerpiece of the whole action comes in the form of the DJ booth, which is located within the cab of a Mack truck, complete with functioning headlights and an airhorn.
Keeping with it's roots, most items within the club are acutally still for sale, although some are at obviously exaggerated prices.
Open three nights a week, Pawn Shop plays host to a variety of acts, including the best in house DJs, hip-hop acts, and indie-rock bands. |
